Commodore's Corner: Spring 2026 Is Here!

Dear LSYC Members,
Spring is finally here and brings with it the anticipation of another great sailing season at
Lake Stockton. April is the month of moving back into our sailboats, with deep cleaning,
waxing, completing commissioning checklists, and changing the infamous raw water
impeller being the norm. Why do we do this every year?
For Teresa and me our favorite part of spring is going out on the lake for the first time
since last fall. I don’t know about you, but I always have that little queasy feeling on that
first sail of the year. We motor out in the lake and head into the wind, raise the main
sail, then come off and unfurl the head sail. After a short time, we both look at each
other, grin, nod and then I turn off the engine. All we hear is the sound of the water
lapping against the boat as it powers up into the wind. For us, as I am sure with many
of you, this can be a very emotional experience.
Seeing our lake friends on the docks, combined with that first spring sail is addictive as evidenced by our 15 years at the lake. We still consider ourselves newcomers as many other sailors have been doing this spring ritual for 25, 30, 35 years or more.
I wish you a memorable first sail and happy days with your family and friends this sailing season!

Membership Renewal
April is traditionally our LSYC membership renewal month, and membership will remain a flat fee of $150.
What do you get for this membership? This year we have four buoy races, four cruise
races and four social events/dock crawls. Lisa and Bec have planned some very fun
theme events for this year. Our first social event will be a Cajun Boil on May 16 th ,
Spring Fling weekend.
We are kicking off a mentoring program for members; you can
request an experienced sailor to go out with you on your boat for one-on-one instruction
and learning. Contact lsyccommodore@gmail.com for more information.
Social Chair Update
The 2026 season is coming together nicely. The events this season will showcase a
variety of what the lake area has to offer. For Spring Fling, LSYC has partnered with some very talented folks to bring us an authentic Cajun Shrimp Boil with an atmosphere to match.
Dock Crawls this season will follow a few of the Shark Park meals and offer a
themed experience serving delicious desserts, cocktails and a chance to reconnect with
our dock buddies. Which dock will win the competition this year? Would your dock like to join in the fun? Let us know!
Orleans Trail Restaurant and Resort have graciously offered very generous discounts to include in our membership welcome packets. They will also host
an LSYC Happy Arrgh every Friday evening. Let’s get together each week and raise a glass to what will surely be another amazing weekend.
I look forward to meeting our new members, reconnecting with
our returning members and helping to make your sailing season relaxing and
rejuvenating.
