Race Committee Update

We are addressing past PHRF inconsistancies and are taking action. Historically, we have been relying on US Sailing's data, and after several months of research and conversations with racers across multiple regions, it has become clear that US Sailing is not providing consistent stewardship of PHRF data nationwide.

The primary issue is the lack of centralized collection and management of PHRF certificates issued by regional authorities. While US Sailing claims approximately 20,000 boats received PHRF ratings in 2025, the US Sailing database lists only 108 boats with valid 2025 PHRF certificates, 0.5% of the ratings issued.

Further analysis shows that most of the certificates in the US Sailing database come

from just two organizations: Lake Ontario and ALAMO (Texas). This reinforces the

conclusion that the national database is incomplete and not representative of the

broader PHRF landscape.

Nearly every club is already using some form of local adjustment system to level the playing field, accounting for known performance enhancers and detractors that influence results. In 2026, we will be doing the same. If you are interested in the topic please contact us.

To ensure the long-term success of LSYC racing, we need to continue recruiting and

training Race Committee (RC) volunteers. Running regattas requires several key roles,

and there are many opportunities to get involved, learn new skills, and support the club.

Whether you’re experienced or completely new to RC work, there’s a role where you

can contribute.
