We Go To The Lake. Sometimes It Rains At The Lake.

Updated: May 30

I've gotta give Jim North credit.

I have raised my kids as lake kids. "Dock Rats" as they say. Every weekend possible we go to the lake and spend time together as a family. And for the most part, they have fond memories. They grew up knowing how to drive every boat imaginable, know the rules of the water and are excellent swimmers. They can propblem solve, fish, and spend time without their phones.

But sometimes, they got cranky. Especially when there is a weather forecast for a rainy weekend. "Its just gonna rain, why bother?" they would whine. Jim North, who also raised his kids at the lake, offered me this tidbit:

"I tell them we go to the lake. Sometimes it rains at the lake. But we go to the lake."

I've been using that line ever since. This Memorial Day weekend, I used it a lot! The forecast was for SEVEN inches of rain. But we followed Jim's advice and went anyway. Yes, it rained each night, but we got out for a 4 hour sail on both Friday and Saturday. We even sailed over to State Park Marina for Cheeseburgers.

The moral of my story: When in doubt, go for it! Take your family to the lake, see what the weather actually does, and make the most of it.

Even if you need a raincoat.
